Barbara Ann Rider 3-26-1936 to 3-13-2025

With profound sadness and loving remembrance, we announce the passing of Barbara Ann Rider, affectionately known as “Nanny,” of Rockville, Maryland, on March 12, 2025. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Barbara was the heart and soul of her family, embodying love, kindness, and unwavering strength.

Born with a warm spirit and a nurturing heart, Barbara dedicated her life to creating a home filled with love, laughter, and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals. She took great pride in her work as a candy maker, bringing sweetness not only through her craft but in every aspect of her life. Her famous cookies and cherished recipes became symbols of the love she shared with her family. Barbara now joins her beloved husband, Benjamin “Pop-Pop” Rider, in eternal rest, reunited after a lifetime of devotion.

She is survived by her loving children, Robert, Maryalice, and Charlie Rider, who will continue to honor her legacy. Her memory lives on in her cherished grandchildren: Jamilla, Sarah (Ali), Alex (Sarah), Thomas (Alyssa), Jenna (Basil), Keri, Danya (Rich), and Megan (Sean), as well as her adored great-grandchildren: Aliyah, Base, Rai, Sean, Layth, Matthew, Vienna, Nylah, Charles, Leila, Bennett, Thomas Jr, and Zayn.

Barbara found joy in life’s simple pleasures—never missing a game of Bingo, delighting in the thrill of the penny slots in Charlestown, and embracing every opportunity to gather with loved ones. She was a woman who loved all things flowers, and in her honor, family and friends are encouraged to wear floral and light colors as a tribute to her bright and beautiful spirit. Though she has left this world, Barbara’s love, laughter, and kindness will forever live in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.

A viewing and service will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at DeVol Funeral Home in Gaithersburg, MD, followed by her burial at Parklawn Cemetery at 1:00 PM, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved “Benny” Benjamin.
